Snakehead stars Shuya Chang as Sister Tse, a Chinese immigrant in New York City, searching for a way to reunite with her young daughter and provide for her family.

At times, the film suffers from uneven pacing as it explores the dark side of New York's Chinatown. One of the most infamous, real-life human trafficking stories in the United States involves Sister Ping, the head of a long-running human smuggling network between Hong Kong and New York City that ran from 1984 to 2000.
